Allerdings antwortet Stockman nun einem Fan auf Discord: „[H]onestly, I think the franchise is dead, unfortunately.“ Er fügte hinzu: „I get the sense that Embracer has zero ability to do anything with it. I wish things were different. I tried my best to offer a path forward, but they've ghosted me.“  nnEmbracer übernahm Volition 2018 als Teil des Koch-Media-Kaufs, und das 2022er-Reboot war das einzige Projekt des Studios unter ihrer Ägide inmitten laufender Umstrukturierungen und Personalaustauschs. Nach dem Misserfolg des Reboots schloss Embracer Volition 2023. Saber-Interactive-CEO Matt Karch kommentierte das Reboot: „They didn't know what they were building. They didn't have any real direction. It couldn't last. And so, who's going to fund them for the next game after that disaster?“  nnDiese Entwicklung passt zum Muster von Embracer, Projekte zu canceln, einschließlich Revivals von Perfect Dark und Deus Ex, sowie jüngsten Turbulenzen bei Crystal Dynamics' Tomb-Raider-Bemühungen inmitten weiterer Umstrukturierungen.
