Der Allahabad High Court erklärte, dass das Maternity Benefit Act, ein vom Parlament verabschiedetes Gesetz, Vorrang vor jeglichen behördlichen Anweisungen oder Bestimmungen im Finanzhandbuch habe. Im Falle von Widersprüchen hätten die Bestimmungen des Gesetzes eine vorrangige Wirkung, so das Gericht unter Verweis auf frühere Urteile. Richter Karunesh Singh Pawar, der als Einzelrichter fungierte, entschied mit diesen Anweisungen über die Petition von Manisha Yadav. Das Urteil stärkt die Mutterschaftsansprüche von Regierungsangestellten, insbesondere in Bezug auf den Urlaub für ein zweites Kind.
