US-Finanzministerium sanktioniert sechs Personen mit Verbindungen zum Nordost-Kartell

Das Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) des US-Finanzministeriums hat am 14. April sechs Personen sanktioniert, die mit einem vom Nordost-Kartell betriebenen Netzwerk für Geldwäsche und Bargeldschmuggel in Verbindung stehen. Unter den Sanktionierten befindet sich der Anwalt Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez, der mit Miguel Ángel „Z-40“ Treviño Morales in Verbindung steht. Zudem wurden zwei Casinos in Tamaulipas ins Visier genommen, die für illegale Aktivitäten genutzt wurden.

Das US-Finanzministerium hat Sanktionen gegen sechs Personen angekündigt, die mit dem Nordost-Kartell (CDN) in Verbindung stehen, einer kriminellen Gruppe mit starker Präsenz in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, nahe Laredo, Texas. Die Maßnahmen zielen darauf ab, deren Finanznetzwerk für Geldwäsche und Bargeldschmuggel zu zerschlagen.

Juan Pablo Penilla Rodríguez, Anwalt von Miguel Ángel „Z-40“ Treviño Morales, dem ehemaligen Anführer der Los Zetas, wurde sanktioniert, weil er als Vermittler zwischen Treviño Morales, der in Mexiko inhaftiert ist, und der aktuellen CDN-Führung agierte. Laut OFAC leistete Penilla dem Kartell trotz bestehender Sanktionen gegen seinen Mandanten illegale Dienste und ermöglichte es diesem, seinen Einfluss aus dem Gefängnis heraus aufrechtzuerhalten.

Zu den sanktionierten Einrichtungen gehören zwei Casinos: das Casino Centenario in Nuevo Laredo, betrieben von der Comercializadora y Arrendadora de México (CAMSA), und das Diamante Casino in Tampico, Tamaulipas. Das Casino Centenario wurde als Lagerstätte für Fentanyl und Kokain sowie zur Geldwäsche illegaler Gewinne durch Glücksspiel genutzt. Es diente zudem als Ort für die Einschüchterung und Folterung von Kartellrivalen.

Die Sanktionen stützen sich auf die Executive Orders 14059 und 13224, die sich gegen Unterstützer krimineller Organisationen richten. „Das Finanzministerium wird alle ihm zur Verfügung stehenden Ressourcen nutzen, um unsere Nation vor gewalttätigen Kartellen zu schützen“, erklärte Finanzminister Scott Bessent.
