Khalid menegaskan statusnya sebagai saksi, bukan tersangka, dan datang dalam kapasitas Ketua Umum Asosiasi Mutiara Haji. Ia menyatakan telah mengembalikan Rp 8,4 miliar yang diterima dari PT Muhibbah, perusahaan travel haji asal Pekanbaru. "Uang itu bukan kami simpan. Uang itu dikasih oleh Muhibbah, terus kami enggak tahu uang apa, KPK minta, kami kembalikan pada saat diminta," ujar Khalid kepada wartawan.

Ia menjelaskan uang tersebut merupakan pengembalian dana terkait pengurusan visa haji, meski sebelumnya membawa jamaah dengan kuota furoda. Khalid mengaku tidak mengetahui asal pasti uang itu dan tidak pernah berinteraksi dengan mantan Menteri Agama Yaqut Cholil Qoumas atau staf khususnya.

Budi Prasetyo, Juru Bicara KPK, mengonfirmasi bahwa tidak hanya Khalid, tetapi beberapa Penyelenggara Ibadah Haji Khusus (PIHK) lain juga telah mengembalikan uang. "Dalam penyidikan perkara dugaan tindak pidana korupsi terkait kuota haji ini, KPK tidak hanya menerima pengembalian uang saudara KB saja, namun juga terdapat pengembalian dari PIHK-PIHK lainnya," kata Budi. Ia mengimbau PIHK lain untuk kooperatif.
