マリー=ピエール・サン=オンジュ氏が主導したこの研究は、普段7〜8時間の睡眠をとっている成人を対象に実施された。リストバンド型のモニターで睡眠と活動を追跡し、研究者が体重、体組成、ホルモン値を測定した。

サン=オンジュ氏は「十分な睡眠をとることは、体重増加や、心臓病や糖尿病といった肥満に関連する疾患のリスクを軽減する助けとなる可能性があることが本研究で示された」と述べている。この研究結果は、7月6日付の『Annals of Internal Medicine』誌に掲載された。
