Dodgers Overcome Early Deficit
The Blue Jays jumped ahead 3-0 in the third inning on Bo Bichette's three-run home run off Shohei Ohtani, who pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs. Max Scherzer started for Toronto and held the Dodgers to one run over 4 1/3 innings, but the Dodgers chipped away with a sacrifice fly from Teoscar Hernández in the fourth and another from Tommy Edman in the sixth, cutting the lead to 4-2. Andrés Giménez's RBI double in the sixth extended Toronto's advantage to 4-2.
Ninth-Inning Drama Seals Dodgers' Fate
Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, Rojas, batting ninth and a part-time infielder, crushed a hanging slider from Jeff Hoffman for a solo home run, tying the score at 4-4. It was Rojas' first homer off a right-handed pitcher in over a year and only his second in the ninth inning of a winner-take-all World Series game, joining Bill Mazeroski in 1960. In the bottom half, with bases loaded and one out, Rojas fielded Daulton Varsho's grounder and threw out Isiah Kiner-Falefa at home. Andy Pages then made a diving catch on Ernie Clement's fly ball to left-center, colliding with Kiké Hernández to end the inning and force extras.
Extra Innings Heroics
Max Muncy homered off Trey Yesavage in the eighth to make it 4-3. In the 11th, Smith hit a two-out solo homer off Shane Bieber for a 5-4 lead, becoming the first extra-innings homer in a winner-take-all World Series game. Yamamoto, pitching on zero rest after six innings in Game 6, escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth and retired the side in the 11th. Mookie Betts started a game-ending double play on Alejandro Kirk's grounder, securing the win. Yamamoto finished the series 3-0 with a 1.02 ERA and was named MVP.
