McLaren kehrte vor dem Sprint-Qualifying beim Großen Preis von Kanada zur vorherigen Frontflügel-Spezifikation zurück, nachdem beide Fahrer über mangelndes Vertrauen in die neue Version berichtet hatten.

McLaren führte in Montreal die zweite Phase seines Upgrade-Pakets aus Miami ein, das neben einem neuen Frontflügel auch eine neue Motorabdeckung, überarbeitete Verkleidungen der Hinterradaufhängung sowie Änderungen an den Bodenkanten umfasste. Lando Norris begann das freie Training mit dem aktualisierten Flügel, während Oscar Piastri mit der vorherigen Spezifikation startete, bevor er später in der Session wechselte. Da sich keiner der Fahrer mit dem neuen Bauteil wohlfühlte, entschied sich das Team dazu, für den Rest des Wochenendes unter Parc-fermé-Bedingungen auf die ältere Version zurückzugreifen.
