Untersuchungsausschuss reicht Bericht zu Vorwürfen gegen Richter Varma bei Parlamentspräsident ein

Der Untersuchungsausschuss, der die Vorwürfe gegen Richter Yashwant Varma prüft, hat seinen Bericht am Montag bei Lok-Sabha-Sprecher Om Birla eingereicht. Der Bericht folgt den gesetzlichen Anforderungen gemäß dem Judges (Inquiry) Act von 1968.

Der Bericht wird beiden Häusern des Parlaments vorgelegt und soll voraussichtlich während der Monsun-Session zwischen Juli und August behandelt werden. Richter Varma vom Allahabad High Court war im vergangenen Monat inmitten eines Amtsenthebungsverfahrens zurückgetreten. Diese Verfahren wurden durch den angeblichen Fund verbrannter Banknoten in seiner Residenz in Delhi nach einem Brand im März 2025 ausgelöst. Ein früherer interner Ausschuss hatte festgestellt, dass Richter Varma die aktive oder stillschweigende Kontrolle über den Abstellraum hatte, in dem sich das Bargeld befand. Über 200 Abgeordnete hatten im Juli 2025 einen Amtsenthebungsantrag unterzeichnet. Dem dreiköpfigen Untersuchungsausschuss, der am 12. August 2025 eingesetzt wurde, gehörten Richter Aravind Kumar, der Oberste Richter des Bombay High Court, Shree Chandrashekhar, sowie der leitende Rechtsanwalt B. V. Acharya an.
